Stone-shell
The stone-shell is a passive mob added in Luth: Reluthed, found in the
Rocky Plains biome. Stone-shells are crustaceans heavily based on crabs, though unlike crabs they do not move sideways. They have 100 HP and are known for hiding near hostile mobs.
Appearance
The stone-shell is a crustacean with four pairs of legs and two claws, with a shell resembling a clump of stone.
Spawning
Stone-shells spawn around the Rocky Plains, and can sometimes be found spawning in
Stone-shell Nest structures.
Behavior
If a hostile mob enters a 20-block radius of a stone-shell, it will burrow into the ground and enter a "resting" state. It will only leave this state once there are no hostile mobs within a 20-block radius.
Variants
Pebble-shell
The pebble-shell is the baby variant of the stone-shell. It grows into an adult stone-shell the same way baby mobs do in vanilla Minecraft.
Egg
The
stone-shell egg is a block that hatches into a pebble-shell. It can be obtained from
Stone Pillar loot or from
Stone-shell Nests.

Trivia
- Stone-shells were originally going to be hostile mobs. Their original concept came from a scrapped dimension idea featuring several "warped" biomes, one of which was an early version of the Rocky Plains, home to the stone-shells.
- The stone-shell's hiding behavior went through several iterations during development. It was first designed to cover its nest and only move when a player got close. This was later changed so it would only hide when a hostile mob was nearby, moving when the player approached — this behavior was later changed again due to bugs.
- Stone-shells had a scrapped "sitting" feature, where they would randomly sit during the day if they weren't hiding. This was scrapped due to bugs.
- Early concept art for the stone-shell and Rocky Plains featured a strange growth that could appear on stones and stone-shells and be sheared off. This feature never got past the concept stage.
